Thanks For Your Record Response to the Women in Packaging Poll

In January 2001, Women in Packaging Inc. (WMPKG) polled its constituency to determine what type of programs and services packaging professionals believe to be most important to their careers' progress. The association was eager to reach out and develop its programming in a manner that would be most beneficial to today's industry representatives. A record number of responses were received and the data is being used to establish the focus of WMPKG programming as well as concepts for use in Packaging Horizons Magazine.

Power Programs

Power Up in Atlanta and Chicago
WMPKG hosted the second of its series of Power Programs at SouthPack in Atlanta, Ga., on April 25. "Power Talking," a unique professional training program sponsored by Georgia Pacific and presented by Nancy Birnbaum-Gerber, professional certified coach and president of SteppingStones, provided attendees with four Simple Ways to Become a More Conscious and Powerful Communicator.

Donna Messer, president of ConnectUs International and managing editor of Business Woman Canada, was the facilitator at WMPKG's Power Program at Pack Expo International held in Chicago, Ill., in November 2000. "Power Networking" transformed the audience into a group of name taking, contact making professionals.

Tracy Pleet, a WMPKG board member who helped establish the local Philadelphia chapter, was the winner of the "APN" award presented at the Chicago Pack Expo International. Pleet is being coached by ConnectUS and will be profiled in an upcoming issue of Business Woman Canada. The award won by Pleet, "The Art of Power Networking" was presented during WMPKG's international event. More than 150 women participated globally from Trinidad to Switzerland. As a result of the November 8 event, WMPKG was profiled by Women in Food Industry Management in their Canadian publication and has set up reciprocal links between the associations.

The Latest About OTC Packaging Rulings
An informative new program sponsored by Accel, Inc. is slated for WMPKG's annual program at the Health and Beauty Aid Show in New York City on June 13, 2001. The program "New FDA/OTC Packaging Regulations SIMPLIFIED" will be presented by David Steinberg, a world-renowned cosmetic chemistry consultant on international and U.S. regulations and Holly Young, president of Hirschhorn & Young. The seminar will focus on understanding the new over-the-counter (OTC) packaging rulings recently initiated by the FDA specifically concerning labeling of sunscreen/SPF, acne, and dandruff products. WMPKG members and supporters who are manufacturers, package designers, marketing executives, production artists, and packaging vendors of OTC drugs sold in the United States will benefit greatly from attending this program.
