Tooting My Team's Horn/B>
Teamwork is definitely the motto of today's workplace. So, how can you reconcile making your
accomplishments known when you're leading a team? According to Manon Bouchard, account manager
at Margo, An Alcan Packaging Company in Lehigh Valley, Pa., when you're promoting your team you
are in effect promoting yourself at the same time. They did well because you did well. It's a
win/win for both.
To Bouchard, team building isn't just assigning tasks to people and waiting until the results
roll in so you can take credit for them. A team leader must make an investment in the team members
and be an exemplary model. Given the proper knowledge about what's expected, the team can take
ownership of the project. Bouchard doesn't see this as taking away from her position at all.
In fact, she notes that shining the spotlight on her team and allowing them to step up to a
challenge gives her time to target new contract packaging and folding cartons accounts and find
innovative packaging solutions.
"I can only stand out if my team is there with me," says Bouchard. Her success is measured by
her team's efficiency, strength, and empowerment.
